Tourism translation for China’s globalization is of great importance in promoting the Chinese culture, which offers an enjoyable way for foreign tourists to know China better. The improvement of the quality of translated tourism texts is then not only a demand by the internalization of China’s tourism industry, but it embodies the domestic scholars’ efforts and emphasis on the transmission of Chinese culture. This paper thus explores into the adaptive selections made by the translator to improve the translated tourism texts and promote the cross-cultural communication. Through an analysis of the author’s practices in tourism translation, it intends to provoke more thoughts on better translation of tourism texts. The paper consists of five parts. Part one provides an introduction to the research background of tourism translation for China’s globalization as well as the research objective and significance. Part two is the description of the translation procedures. Part three probes into the theory of Translation as Adaptation&Selection from the perspectives of the essence, rules and strategies. Part four gives an analysis of the adaptive techniques that the translator adopts at the linguistic, cultural and communicative dimensions such as conversion, reorganization, addition and paraphrase etc. Part five is the summary, in which the writer points out the limitations of this paper and puts forward further suggestions for research.Based on the case study of the author’s translation practices, this paper draws a conclusion that a translator should take full advantage of his knowledge to adapt to the various elements involved in the translation when taking the particular communicative purpose of the tourism texts into consideration. In his efforts to adapt, he should also make deliberate selections in words, syntactic structures and text organization forms. Moreover, the translator should learn to deepen one’s insight into "translation as adaptation and selection" and make better selections on more dimensions apart from the linguistic, cultural and communicative ones.
