English and Chinese have significant differences both in wording and expressions.English features evident static characteristics as a result of frequently using of verbs, prepositions and adjectives.However, Chinese inclined to use verbs and thus displays significant dynamic characteristics.English legal memorandum is a sort of formal legal writing, which is rich in long sentences. Restricted by linguistic features and grammar rules, verbs in English legal memorandum have to rely on derived nouns, prepositions and derived adjectives to express its meaning. Thus, the number of verbs has been reduced. Therefore, the static characteristics of English legal memorandum are displayed.Since there are disparities between English and Chinese in static and dynamic characteristics, we should consider to converting parts of static expressions into dynamic expressions so as to translate English memorandum into authentic Chinese.These useful converting methods are as follows:to translate nouns, prepositions or prepositional structures and adjectives into verbs. |
