Though in modern times, poetry is lost in the mind of SL readers, there’s no denying that poems are still in the function of purifying people’s souls. As for the translation of English poems, many researchers have put forward their own standards, in this paper, the writer attempted comparative analysis of aesthetic value of translation theories directed by Xu Yuanchong, Lin Yutang and Qian Zhongshu. Xu Yuanchong’s Three Beauties, Lin Yutang’s Faithfulness, Fluency and Beauty and Qian Zhongshu’s Transmigration all stepped from literature and art theories which has nothing to do with linguistics. If anyone wants to seek working solutions for translation from English to Chinese or otherwise, no western translation theories could do better than the theories at home because occidental translation thoughts focusing on translation between English and Chinese are so rare let alone those which are associated with aesthetics. If a poem gets nothing to do with beauty, then for a writer or any translator, there were no meaning in doing their job. That’s the reason why the author mainly chose translation thoughts from Chinese theories. This paper centers on the reproduction of the multi-sensational images in poems, by detailed analysis of the representation of the lively images in Spring by British poet Thomas Nash. In this paper, the writer analyzed four different Chinese versions by different professors. The writer’s research starts from three points:What’s got lost in translation into Chinese of English poetic images in aesthetic aspect; Compensation method of the lost parts; During the process of compensation, what kind of notification should be considered for readers from the translators’side. The writer conducted the study according to the history of the translation of this famous poem which features long time span of different versions by translators from different eras. The writer are trying to prove that excellent poems possess huge value to be retranslated and exploited. Every retranslation enlightened a new shinning spot of the original. What’s more different translators’performance was strongly connected with aesthetic pursuit of the time. The creative point of the paper lies in the unique aspect of image translation. Most research on image reproduction highlighted those culture-loaded images. This paper chose differently. Even the commonest images in poem are not that easy to reproduce for the huge gap between English and Chinese and all the limitations of keeping the sound system and meaning at the same time. Every translator of poems has to let go of certain elements. There’s still a vast area to be studied in the universal images that can be appreciated by every earth man.
