With the increasing global demand for learning Chinese language, the learners’ requirements of Chinese international education level are getting higher and higher. Over the years, Chinese international educators have been dedicating to the study of teaching Chinese as a foreign language aiming for bettering the service they provide to Chinese learners around the world.Chinese teaching for foreign students in China mainly exists in colleges and universities where courses are carefully studied before students’taking. In particular, the importance of writing course can not be underestimated, and some even provide writing course in the beginner’s class. School of international education, Anhui University opens the writing course in the intermediate stage taught by experienced professional teachers, considering foreign students’Chinese level and the difficulty of writing course,etc. After analyzing the questionnaire of teachers and students, the author found that the teachers and students hold different views on the writing textbooks. Overall, the current textbooks fails to meet their needs, especially the cases in them.However, cases are of great importance, the quality of which will directly affect the quality of the final results of teaching. Thus, the author selected sample sections in the textbook as the subject of investigation in order to obtain the relevant findings.This paper touches upon the compiling of Chinese language textbooks for overseas learners. As a matter of fact, the compiling work started in1950s and with six-decade development, it has form edits own system. Textbook compiling and design, classroom teaching, language testing together constitute main parts of the structure of foreign language teaching. Chinese language textbooks for overseas learners are at the core of TCSL (Teaching Chinese As Second Language) and the compiling of textbooks requires an overall consideration of different aspects such as the need and level of learners, syllabus and corpus (knowledge base, teaching material library). Meanwhile, the compiling should follow principles of system, science, fun and communication. With such difficulties, compiling textbooks of TCSL is a long road ahead.The paper also relates to the issue of foreign language writing courses. Of the four language skills,"listening,speaking,reading,and writing,"in a foreign language,writingis undoubtedly the most difficult one.For teachers,it is difficult to teachlesson-planning,teaching-organization,homework-collecting and correction.And it is also difficult for studentsThe paper also relates to the issue of foreign language writing courses. Of the four language skills, listening, speaking, reading and writing in a foreign language,"writing" is undoubtedly the most difficult one. For teachers, it is difficult to teach especially when it comes to lesson-planning, teaching-organization, homework--collecting and correction. And it is also difficult for students. They find it hard to write Chinese characters, to select appropriate vocabulary, to use correct grammar, to write with natural coherence and to use expressions consistent with Chinese habits. Thus, teaching foreign students how to write in Chinese is definitely not easy.Model essays account for a large proportion of writing textbook sand play a significant role in teaching. Normally, such aspects as the length, style and language should all be considered in writing a text. The quality of texts will directly affect teaching results.This thesis is divided into the following five parts:Part Ⅰ:Introduction(including the motivation and significance of the topic, research objects, research methods and literature review) Part Ⅱ:Usage of model essays and evaluation(including Target of Intermediate Writing course; model essays in teaching foreign students, teachers’using and evaluation of model essays as well as students’using and evaluation of model essays)Part Ⅲ:Comparative analysis of model essays in five sets of intermediate writing textbook for foreign students(including source texts of the cases, the length, language and genre).Part Ⅳ:Suggestions.Part Ⅴ:Conclusion Of the five parts, the second and third part are the main part of the thesis. Based on the data of the questionnaire, the thesis makes a comparative analysis of in four sets of writing textbooks on such aspects as sources, length, language and genre and then tries to draw a conclusion.
