José Saramago is one of the most accomplished novelists in the20th century in Portuguese. He is the winner of the Nobel Prize inLiterature in1998, and is the first writer in Portuguese to get thishonor. José Saramago starts his literary creation in earlier times. Hisfirst novel Land of Sin was published in1947. The breakthrough is hissecond one, The Records of Monastery, which was published in1982.This work brought him great praise. As a result, he won the PortugalPEN Award and Lisbon City Literary Award. According to The Recordsof Monastery, an Italian composer Keergexi created the operaBlimunda.This text takes the The Records of Monastery as the researchobject. By exploring its unique narrative art, this paper wants toanalyze the method of reshaping history the writer used. We may havea better understanding about literary creation of Saramago by takingthis study. This article analyzes the narrative strategies of TheRecords of Monastery from three aspects: narrative space, narrativestructure and narrator intervention. The introduction partsummarizes the scholars’ researches on José Saramago and herworks and put forward the topics to be discussed in this article. Themain part of this article is divided into three chapters. The first partanalyses the narrative space, which has a rich meaning. This part discusses the characteristics of works of fiction space and themultiple meanings of the narrative space. The second part discussesthe characteristic of the narrative structure. This part analyzes itfrom two aspects: dual themes and linear characteristic. The thirdpart analyzes narrator intervention from story and discourse, andthen discusses the success factors of the intervention.
