This study intends to explore the feasibility and concrete measures of the utilization of interpreting skills on the college English course, so as to improve non-English majors’ listening and speaking competence. Based on Interpretive Theory by Seleskovitch, the study includes the questionnaire to survey the attitudes of students on the College English Course and interpreting skills.Three studies have been conducted:Interpretive Theory, questionnaires and some practice. Interpretive Theory, which is of great importance to non-English majors’ understanding, contains a systematic research on interpretation through translation processes, de-verbalization and the understanding pattern. Questionnaires on400non-English major participants show that they hope for a better College English Course and harbor great interest in interpreting skills. Some practices reveal that understanding patterns, cross-cultural awareness, de-verbalization, note-taking and KISS principle can be used in intensive reading, listening and oral lectures respectively. The study must be of some help to college English teachers.
