Research On Scenic Beauty Estimation Of Urban Sculpture In Changsha

Urban sculptures have huge meanings in terms of entertainment, culture and esthetics in urban landscape. With the increasing development in city constructions, the demand for improving the space quality and changing the city image are popular from Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou and other metropolitan area to Changsha and other middle cities, where immerge lots of urban sculptures representing the public art. However, little of these urban sculptures could arise public esthetics joviality in a large numbers of unattractive sculptures which conversely become the visual trash. In all, the contradiction between the large numbers of rough urban sculptures and public urging aesthetic demand is the focus research problem in this article.Basing on the mathematic statistics and environmental psychology principles, taking the public opinions from public participation, this article used the SBE (Scenic Beauty Estimation) method to quantitatively analysis the urban sculptures, which were more specific, objective and precise by the qualified charts on the public landscape perceptivity. Taking53sculptures as research samples to make questionnaire survey, in which47for not professionals and42for related professions, the author use EXCEL to calculate SBE value and SPSS to make the regression equation on the results of regression analysis and variance analysis.By analysis the different population opinion of diverse background from four aspects in terms of conformity, difference aesthetic preference and the impact on urban sculptures from different landscape factors, the author get the conclusion that:(1) the aesthetic conformity;(2) the differences between diverse groups;(3) the professionals take the overall impression as the most important factor that impact the urban sculptures, and the factors are ordered as overall impression>color>context conception>form and scale>the cleanliness>layout>ornamental shape; and the nonprofessionals group think both the layout and the overall impression have the same significance and the order is overall impression>layout>ornamental shape>form and scale>the cleanliness>context conception>color;(4)and both the professionals and nonprofessionals pay attention to the overall impression. And the professionals’preferences are color and context conception while the nonprofessionals’are layout and ornamental shape.Five conclusions can be drawn from above research results. Firstly, overall impression is the most important factor, which determines whether a sculpture is suitable to it surroudings. Secondly, designers should pay more attention to the sculpture size. Thirdly, the theme of the sculpture can be drawn from history or daily life, because people are familiar with them. Forthly, sculpture material should meet two demands:durable and textured; the suitable color. Lastly, sculpture materials and backgrounds should have contrast effects.The article is an application of the previous mature theories system and could provide help to the development of urban sculptures landscape theory, to use the evaluation system of city green open space design and the operation and management after the construction, to build a complete urban sculptures evaluation criterion, and finally to direct the urban plan and management.
