On the Hunan folk,small and large numbers o f Taoist statues such girls wholife in the boudoirs are known by less people.However,as the products of religiousbelief,Taoist statues are a kind of social ideology,and will not change its attributeas"material masks".The Hunan Taoist statues are belong to the China Taoiststatues,so,in the imaging system,process and program rituals and otheraspects,they have something in common. However,Hunan that has be en wildernessfrom the ancient,has a unique geographical and human environment.Taoist statuesmust have the characteristics.In this paper, taking Taoist statues of Hunan area in Qing Dynasty as theresearch objects, by means of literature study, investigation, comparative analysis,graphic analysis, statistical analysis and other research methods, combined withrelated literature, as far as possible to show the basic situation of Taoist statues,and further explore the spiritual belief connot ation.In the introduction part,theauthor comes to the point,and describes the definition, the development,theresearch situation and value of Taoist statues directly,in order to make readershaving a clear understanding.Said the system of Tao ist statues,the existing morethan100Taoist statues were arranged.The author classified into foursystems:"SanGuan"as the representative of the god system,"GuanYang"as therepresentative of the guardian system,popular god and ancestor worship,and drawits characteristics.On the statues of process and program rituals, the author fromthe object itself,had a detailed description of the manufacturing process, processapproach, ritual and modeling features, and analysis of the images of artistic styleand aesthetic defects.Statue was not isolated existence, and some relevant originaldocuments, such as prayer manuscripts, the Scriptures and Precious sc rolls,whichevidenced necessity and rationality of existence of statues from the side ofcircumstantial.The last,Taoist statue reflected the local belief characteristic,function and connotation,which maked the pure physical statues to spiritualsublimation.Reviewing the monographs and papers of Taoist statues, there is a trend topay attention to the north and ancient statues. Much of its content is about toTaoist statues of the Southern-Northern Dynasties and the Sui-Tang Dynasties,the Ming and Qing Dynasties given less sufficient attention. In this sense, this paper has the effect of filling the blank.Taoist statues of Hunan area in QingDynasty are the result of ethnic fusion, showing regional distinctive. In the historyof Hunan, the Taoist themes penetrate into local artistic fields, including painting,sculpture, architecture, drama, music, novels. Worship and belief of the localpeople to statues implies its own unique value concept,which becomes anindispensable part of Chinese traditional cul ture.
