The problem of time is always an important research topic in philosophy. As the source of modern French philosophy, Bergson’s time thought has important implications for understanding modern French philosophy. He argued that philosophy, as a rigorous science, its starting point is duration as the true time. Bergson’s most profound contribution to time problem is using the life theory to discuss time. He attributes life’s essence of creation and surpassing to duration. At the same time, he objected the theory that considers time as mathematic, mechanical and linear.In the first part, the article main investigates the logic development clues from ancient Greece to Kant. The most important part is the debate of time philosophy between Newton and Clark. Newton’s position on the question of time is essentially the scientific time theory which Bergson wants to critic.In the second part, the paper detailed the concept of duration which is the core concept of Bergson’s time philosophy from the perspective of duration and consciousness, duration and diversity, duration and space, duration and movement, duration and memory, duration and life impulse.In the third part, Bergson’s time thought once proposed have raised the discussion in the scientific and philosophical field. this part introduced the reflection evaluation of Bergson’s time theory in that time and his theory’s contribution and limitation.
