| Prose enjoys the reputation of "Passages of goodness". The goodness of aprose lie in its natural rhythm, just like murmuring water, its rich artisticconceptions, striking readers’ resonance and its combination of feeling withlandscape, stirring up readers’ feelings. It not only serves to convey semanticmeaning but also full of aesthetic value. Therefore, prose translation can beregarded as a kind of aesthetic practice by nature. Aesthetic value in prose mainlyembodied in its "Artistic Flavor", namely "Sound and Rhythm","Ideorealm andAtmosphere" and "Personal Discourse". Hence, the representation of artisticflavor equals to prose translating for it has a direct bearing on the quality of thetranslated rendition.The thesis attempts to apply the translation aesthetics theory to therepresentation of artistic flavor embodied in proses, based on a case study of theauthor ’s own translation practice, in which the author summarizes and categorizesthe difficulties lie in prose translation as well as finds out feasible translationtechniques to handle them. The author finds out that the difficulties in prosetranslations are the representation of musical effects, artistic conceptions and theauthor ’s style. In view of this, the author thinks that equivalent imitation,compensational imitation and dynamic imitation are three efficient translationtechniques in prose translation. |
