Since the reform and opening up to the world, great changes have taken place in our society, politics, economy, culture and other aspects. At the same time, various new phenomena, ideas and things have been springing up. All these changes could be reflected in language. Vocabulary is the most active and sensitive element in the language system, and the neologism is a miniature of the change of times and social progress as well as a mirror reflecting the social development. These emerged neologisms are vivid and extremely expressive, greatly enriching the Chinese expressions. Nowadays, the mass media is the best channel to express the rapid changes in every field of the world. Thanks to the application of these neologisms by the mass media, the neologisms spread quickly, usually obtain the legitimate status because of the widespread recognition by the public and then develop from parole to the organic component of langue. Therefore, it shows that the mass media plays an irreplaceable leading role in the propagation and standardization of neologisms. Nowadays as the cross-cultural communication become more and more frequent, timely and accurate translation and introduction of new things with Chinese characteristics to the world is very urgent, necessary and important for the promotion of culture with Chinese characteristics and the foreign propaganda.Judging from the information collected by the author, as for the researches on the English translation of Chinese media neologisms summarized from the perspective of translation methods and skills, while so far few researches from the perspective of pragmatics. Therefore, on the basis of summarizing the previous research results, the author uses the Adaptation Theory of pragmatics as theoretical basis, starts from the perspective of dynamic adaptation, and attempts to study the adaptability on the English translation of Chinese media neologism.First of all, the author comprehensively summarizes the origin, classification, characteristics and the translation difficulties of Chinese media neologisms and takes the preliminary discussion about some practical principles that the English translation of Chinese media neologisms should follow. This thesis mainly emphasizes that under the perspective of Adaptation Theory, translation is a continuous dynamic process of making choices in order to ensure the smooth communication. In the process of English translation of Chinese media neologisms, the translator determines corresponding translation method (adding missing message, transliteration, literal translation, free translation, back-translation, explanatory translation, analogy, etc.) according to the translation purpose, language expression, cognitive environment and cultural characteristics in order to ensure successful communication. With the typical Chinese neologisms and their translations collected over the past15years as the research object, this thesis carries on the analysis, comparison, conclusion and summarization of the current research situation of Chinese neologism translation. It aims to explore the adaptability on English translation of Chinese media neologisms from a new perspective and to exert practical value on improving the accuracy and acceptability of the translation of Chinese media neologism.
