Anticipation is the most widely discussed strategy in simultaneous interpretation. Thispaper is an attempt to examine the plausibility of application of anticipation in thesimultaneous interpretation between Chinese and English.Under the guidance of cognitive linguistics and Gile’s Effort Model, the author analyzedProbability Anticipation Model proposed by Chernov, the representative of the Soviet Schoolin interpreting research. In the analysis, the author pointed out the theoretical foundation ofthe model and its relations with cognitive linguistics. Under the guidance of the Effort Modeland Probability Anticipation Model,the author clariifes the deifnition of anticipation insimultaneous inetrpretaiton and points out the links and differences between anticipation andinference. This analysis is also an attempt to inetrpret the anticipation process in simultaneousinterpretation from a new perspective.In order to testify the possibility to apply anticipation strategy, an observational studywas conducted, in which the function, result and risk of the application of were discussed.Based on the process model and the observational study, plausible advices toprofessional interpreters and interpreting trainers were given.
