Vocabulary is a fundamental element in language. Vocabulary teaching is thus an important part in language teaching. During recent decades, great efforts have been paid to the English vocabulary teaching in China. But the result is far from satisfactory. Vocabulary is always considered as one of biggest obstacle that hinders English learning by both teachers and students. The same is true to the junior college students. This more or less reflects the inefficiency of the traditional ways of English vocabulary teaching in China. To solve this problem, many alternative approaches have been put forward. Among them, the cognitive approach is a new one in recent decades and attracts a lot of attention from researchers and scholars. This paper aims at providing a new perspective for vocabulary teaching in junior college, i.e. Frame Semantics, a branch of cognitive linguistics, so as to make contributions on the improvements of the junior college English vocabulary teaching situation in China by applying it into the English vocabulary teaching in junior college.Frame Semantics is regarded as a model of the semantics of understanding. It is based on the idea that certain concepts are bound together because they are associated in experience. In order to understand meanings of the words in a language we must first have knowledge of the concept structures, or semantic frames, which can provide the background knowledge and motivation for their existence and usage. Therefore. Frame Semantics is of great significance in meaning understanding. Based on the theory of Frame Semantics, ways of teaching vocabulary are brought up in this paper. In order to verify the application of Frame Semantics into the English vocabulary teaching is helpful to the college students’ English vocabulary learning. a research was carried out in which the methods of tests. questionnaire. and interview are adopted. The results shows that English vocabulary teaching from the perspective of Frame Semantics that is based on the three-stage model is helpful to the students’ English vocabulary learning, especially in facilitating students’ meaning understanding of the words and the appropriate use of the words.Through the research, limitations and implications of the research are obtained for further exploration of English vocabulary teaching in China. Hopefully. this paper attempts to shed some light on the junior college English vocabulary teaching in China.
