Li Ruqing is an important writer in China’s modern novel history, whose novelcomposition started in the Cultural Revolution period. Incarcerated by the objective politicalenvironment of that period and coupled with the high unity of Li’s artistic aesthetic pursuitsand the dominant ideological requirements of that period, Li succeeded in creating adominant literature in the Cultural Revolution period. However, at the same time, he retainedthe literature nature of his works, which is reflected in his expression of humanity andbreaking of the simple binary opposition model between the enemies and us. In the1980s, Lihad a successful transition in its war novels composition. These novels not only got rid of thepattern of the best sellers, but also gained huge achievements in expressing love, philosophical thinking and war tragedies. At the very beginning, the readers group of the warliterature was relatively small. After the transition, Li added more romantic elements into hisnovels. Li’s love stories shared homoorganicity with the model of the world classic lovestories, which led to increasing wide spread of Li’s novels. At the same time, hisbreakthrough in humanity, reflection on the history, forbidden areas of war tragedies andexploration of the roots of war tragedies made Li’s novels stand out of their kind. However, the biggest achievement of Li in his war novels was his new exploration of the grandiosenarration of the revolutionary and historical novels under the new historical circumstances. Inthe1980s, with the transition of China’s society and pouring in of the various western ideas, new historical novels decomposing the grandiose narration of revolutionary and historicalnovels appeared in China’s literature field. Against the backdrop, Li not only insisted ongrandiose narration, but also expressed the textual nature and accidental nature of the history, exploring the applications of documentary and fictitious methods.
