Idiom is an important part of Chinese words that people use it become a custom throughlong practice, structure solidified and with the overall significance of the four-character fixedphrases. Since2005, the State Language Commission began to issue "Language Situation inChina”, and increased the survey of Idiom and phrase in2007, showing that the use of idiomand phrase have been gotten more widespread concern.This paper we use “People’s Daily”’s electronic version language material from1946to2007through statistics the idiom used in newspaper,and from different angles to inspect,analyze and describe the overall use of idiom, which focus on changes of the form of theidiom. After sorting and screening, we get470groups idiom which relate in the form. Weclassify the idiom from three angles-phonetic form, written form and structure form,contrastive analyze the frequency of utilization, functional quality and causes of the changeand explore the diachronic change about the idiom form in the People’s Daily. On this basiswe have suggestion on standardization of the idiom and hope has a help on teaching andlexicography.
