A mirror in people’s daily life plays an important role and contains different complexcultural flavor in Eastern and Western culture. It is still a relatively unique method whichdifferent from the male erspective to make text analysis of the female emotional worldbecause of the natural relationship between female and mirror. The image “mirror” whichpresents richness of female gender consciousness, gender experience, culture and aestheticvalue has appeared high frequently in modern Chinese women’s poems. This doctoralthesistakes the image “mirror” in modern Chinese women’s poems as the research object, anduses the gender criticism to discuss how the female poets reflect their women’s subjectawareness, female ideniity and subjeetive personality. This thesis includes four parts:The first part is the introduction. The cultural connotation of the mirror in Easternand Western culture and the influence of the mirror to modern Chinese women’s poemsare combed. In the Eastern culture, the Mirror-metaphor was used to tell intellect and playrealistic functions. It was closely related with people’s real life. In the Western culture, theMirror is often used as a tool to contact the subject and the object. The subject thinksabout the philosophy and objects through the mirror. Under the traditional culture ofmirror influence, the image “mirror” in the modern Chinese women’s poems revealed theChinese women’s self-identification and self-criticism.The seeond part is to describe the different images: the water, the room and the stone, which all have the same structure of the mirror, and analyze both their spiritual implicationand life perception of the modern female poets. The third part is to describe the female selfgaze image to explain the aestheticintegration between the image “mirror” and women’s existence. When women observethemselves, they are bold to describe their bodies to confirm their self-identification, likethe babies in a mirror for the first time recognize their own images, in lacan “mirrortheory”. But the visional mirror can’t give them the real self-awareness. In this case, thefemale poets launched a deep reflection of the the possibility and the multiple ways ofwomen’s self-realization. The last part is to reflect the phenomenon that a large number of mirror imageappeared in the contemporary female poetries. The mirror confirms and identifies femaleself-image. Butthe illusory space can’t bring the self-recognition. Women should breakthrough the circle of mirror on the basis of self-identification, go out of the “mirror city”and pay more attention to the history and the realistic society to realize their ego andpursuit a more wide space of the female art development.
