Since the20th century, the development of China’s vocal music career has beenreally rapid. Chinese vocalists win awards in various international vocal competitions, which bring our cause to the attention of the world. The definition of three singingstyles has been influenced by the vocal music events and competitions in themainland. And China’s traditional folk style singing has become not as initially pureand single as it was. The proposal of"Chinesesinging" has also been repeatedlysuggested which believes that China should be unique in the forest of Vocal Arts inthe world and form its own vocal genre. To form a complete vocal genre requires afull training pattern and formal aesthetic standard. As known to all, art songs play avery important role in vocal training, such as shaping the basic image of the sound, stabling breath, enhancing the singer’s artistic accomplishments and so on. In thisthesis, the author chooses an ancient poetry vocal divertimento,"Autumn Song"written by Luo Zhongrong, and does a case study. Based on the personal experienceof performing this work, the author spreads out the discussion from two aspects,"form" and "meaning", and indicates the combination point of "form" and "meaning",revealing the universal law to follow while performing artistic songs of classicChinese poems. The author would be really honored if this thesis could contribute tothe development and perfection of the vocal genre of “Chinese Singing”.
