Study On Diversity And Function On White Tiger Culture Of Tujia Minority In The Western Hunan And Hubei Provivince

The Tiger Culture has been always prevailing on the land of China, thereforepeople from each nationality of each region all have relevant studies about Tiger and itsculture behind it. From Tiger’s title in Ancient time to its symbol it embodies at present,from old sacrifice to nowadays various popular rites, people’s worship of Tiger’sbravery and resistance against Tiger’s harm display Tiger and its cultural charmingcharacteristics. White Tiger culture, one branch of Tiger culture, has its differentmanifestation and content in Han Nationality, Tujia minority and Yi Minority. And thispaper mainly touches upon White Tiger Culture of Tujia minority located in Hunan andWestern Hubei.White Tiger culture, as cultural token of Ba people, originated from Linjun in theregion of Qingjiang River. It was said that his soul turned into White Tiger. Becauselocal Ba people thought White tiger would eat people, it became a popular activity tofeed White Tiger, which later evolved into the habit of sacrificing Linjun. Afterwards,the custom of sacrificing Linjun turned into worshiping and respecting Tiger incontemporary history. While, in the eyes of local people who suffered a lot of harmfrom Tiger, to feed Tiger and harm brought by Tiger are main reasons of driving WhiteTiger in the neighboring region of Youshui River in Western Hunan. White TigerCulture, with the formation of Tujia minority, became national culture for Tujia minorityin Hunan, Hubei, Chongqing and Guangzhou. The legends of White Tiger Culture,popularizing in Tujia minority, belief rites and well-know gala activities, such asHands-waving dance, Maogusi dance and Funeral dance etc, finally formedindispensable national culture for Tujia minority, later has been integrated into itshistory and life.Because of different geographical features, historical culture and attitudes towardsWhite Tiger for Tujia minority in Hunan and Hubei, its manifestation and content ofWhite Tiger Culture in different regions are different. Owing to the phenomenon of same origin and different branches, the same origin holds Tujia minority’s heart togetherand the different branches enrich the national culture.
