As one of the representative works of Yasunari Kawabata, Koto builds the world of themost typical natural beauty, human beauty and traditional beauty. Furthermore, Koto is thenatural revelation of author’s inner feeling, is the true representation of Kawabata’s spiritualworld.This paper explored Yasunari Kawabata’s spiritual through Koto’s aesthetic world onthe basis of analysing Koto’screative motivation and its uniqueness.First, from the natural beauty described in Koto, we can discover Kawabata’s ecologicalconcepts—“the combination of nature and mankind”. Tt also reflects Kawabata’scomplex toreturn to nature. In Koto, the “natural” element plays an important role. Kawabata advocatesclosing to nature to seek relief and purification of the mind from nature. In addition, thenatural things in Koto have certain symbolic significance. Secondly, from the humanity’sbeauty in Koto, we can find that Kawabata yearns of “pure spirit” and craves for love andaffection. In Koto, we are also able to discover Kawabata’s thinking about “fate” and“loneliness”. Finally, from the traditional beauty in Koto, it is easy to discover Kawabata’sclassical aesthetic consciousness, the pursuit of traditional Japanese culture and the desire toreturn to tradition.
