Research On Family Type Defending Settlements In Northern Hubei

In the Northern Hubei of Suizhou and Xiaogan because of factors such as socialculture, geography, physiognomy characteristics in the historical period to build a largenumber of garrisoned type settlements, which constituted an important type of ruralsettlement. Among them, the family type defending settlements are one of the importanttypes of garrisoned in settlement in the area, it is of great significance on the history ofsettlement and residential research in the region. Currently in Suizhou, Xiaogan andsurrounding areas, there are quite a number of family type defending settlements,compared to other garrisoned type settlements, save relatively more, in good condition,but as the disorder of current rural development and urbanization process speeding up,they are suffering from serious damage. Therefore, the investigation and research on thefamily type defending settlements in the area become very important. This paper takes thefamily type defending settlements in Suizhou and Xiaogan regions as the research object,to explore its connotation and regional residential characteristics, mainly includes thefollowing parts:The first part is to summarize the garrisoned type settlements, and to analysis therelevant background and causes of family type defending settlements in Suizhou andXiaogan regions.The second part select three typical cases, respectively from three aspects ofsettlement, residential buildings and defensible space to analysis the residentialcharacteristics and defense features of family type defending settlements in the areain-depth, and summarize.The third part first points out that the strong and obvious defensive characteristics isthe biggest difference between family type defending settlements and ordinary settlement.Combined with lots of examples of the area’s family type defending settlements researchto analyze its defensive characteristics, explore the connotation of family type defendingsettlements in the region.The last part is the summary and prospect of this research.
