In the Practice of teaching Chinese as a foreign language, time adverb is animportant grammatical item and it remains a very difficult part for foreign students.Chinese time adverbs are numerous and have a broad scope of usage. It is extremelydifficult for foreign students to maser Chinese in past time adverbs and students oftenmake various kinds of errors in using time adverbs.In the thesis, we picked up10primary time adverbs from the vocabulary ofChinese Proficiency test glossary. This dissertation, based on the error analysis offoreign students who speak English, intends to single the past time vocabulary out fora systematical study, which, can provide Chinese teachers with some useful advice inmaking teaching strategy.The main body of this dissertation comprises five chapters: the first chapter isto review the researches ever made in this field, and then briefly introduce the sourcesof the language materials and the research methods. In second chapter, we will makea preliminary study of the grammar. An analysis is made of the foreign students’errors selected from the practice to discover the causes of these errors. In fourthchapter, the author will propose teaching suggestions. In last chapter, a teaching planwill be designed according to the teaching suggestions proposed.
