With the global development, China’s society, economy and culture aredeveloping rapidly and IT and the media are becoming increasingly advanced. Allthese above bring china into an Era of Image-reading.After the rapid development ofeconomy comes the colorful material life and the affluent living conditions. Thefast-updated images brought by the commodity economy constantly give peoplevisual shock.The young artists who grew up in this environment are deeplyinfluenced by the mass cultural, popular culture and commercial culture. They grewup with cartoon from Europe, America and Japan which inevitably leaves influenceon their character and views on arts. They make careful artistic observations withtheir keen sense of art and demonstrate their artistic styles in their works, whichinjects new energy into the creation of art.The artistic works from the post-1980stake a dominant place in this field. Their works are more or less affected by cartoon.But with their respective point of views in art, they deal with their works differentlywith each other in different styles. Taking the Era of Image-reading as background,this paper, by analyzing the background and the development of oil painting from thepost-1980s, analyzes the conditions and value of these cartoon elements reflected inthe painting. They have their advantages and disadvantages. We should pay attentionto both of them and summarize its cultural meanings behind this. By doing so, thispaper will provide some theoretical support for the development of contemporary artand also be of great help with my own art creation.
