A Study On Inheritance And Protection Of Yichang Sizhu

The Yaqueling town, in the east of Yiling district of Yichang city, is known as“Sizhu Music town of Hubei province”. Under the background of the intangiblecultural heritage protection, the thesis tries to explore systematically the culturalenvironment, the inheritange form, the inheritance mode, the inheritor and protectionof the Yichang Sizhu Music from folklore perspective and by using the fieldworkmethod. The thesis aims to indicate that it is different from the general civil Quyi. It isplayed by many artists with a variety of instruments while effective inheritance is madein the process. Only in a well protected transmission environment can it be inheritedbetter.The thesis is divided into four parts:Part Ⅰ(Introduction) introduces the reason for the topic and the situation for fieldinvestigation, determines the research object, research methods, the researchsignificance and innovation, and summarizes the current academic research on theYichang Sizhu Music.Part Ⅱ (The first and second chapters) summarizes the history, spreading area,performing arts of the Yichang Sizhu music. Combining the local natural and humanenvironment, the paper reveals the connection between the inheritance and the localecological environment. As a local landmark, the Yichang Sizhu Music plays animportant role in local people’s daily life.Part Ⅲ(The third and the fourth chapters) is the main body of the thesis. Firstly,based on the data collected from field work, the third chapter illustrates in detail theinheriting patterns of the Yichang Sizhu Music by taking the performance onweddings and funerals as examples. The diversity of inheriting patterns meets the needof diversifying the inheritance of the Yichang Sizhu Music to a large extent, whichprovides great foundation and security for inheritanging longer and more effectively.Through the investigation of the inheritors of the Yichang Sizhu Music, performingparticipants and performing environment, the fourth chapter recognizes that theYichang Sizhu Music is challenged by the problems of aging musicals and lack offollowers. Finally, the thesis summarizes what has been achieved in cultural protectionand puts forward some practical protecting measures according to local situation, which can bring enlightenment for the research on inheritance and protection of otherintangible cultural heritage.
