So much research on Tibetan Buddhism has been published in China over last fewyears, however, those research are mainly about historical and linage aspects of TibetanBuddhism. Relatively speaking, there is in lack of systematic research on highest Tantrateachings, such as Mahasandhi, Mahamudra, Kalachakra anYamantaka (expect someobvious self portaits kind of research).The main reason of one Buddhism linage can be tansmitted continously in theirown tradition is very much in relate with the doctrine or a specific training method,because these mothods dictate these traditions by root, and they are very much of theinner basis of the whole acticities and rituals in the tradition. In Nyingma sect of TibetanBuddhism, Mahasandhi plays such a role of inner basis, its impact to Nyingma traditionis basic and fundamental. Mahasandhi is Nyingma’s highest and most wholesometeaching, moreover, it’s also called the top crown of all linages of Tibetan Buddhism.My research will be focusing on Nyingma’s Mahasandhi as an object, and explore thehistory, culture and analize the practice of this tradition.Paper can be devided into three major parts:The1stpart as preface, mainly introduces why I choose this subjest; and thecontent, mothod and creative perspective of my research, plus the detailed introductionand research reviews to linages and practices of Mahasandhi,which belongs toNyingma Tradition of Tibetan BuddhismThe2ndpart constitutes the main body of this research by three chapters.1stchapterdistinguishs Ningma’s particularity from other traditions by describing the history andlinage of Nyingma, such particular feature nurtured the precious birth ground ofMahasandhi.2ndchapter presents the theoretical essence of Mahasandhi, which is theTathagatagarbha (also known as Buddha Nature), this chapter explores the thoery ofMahasandhi from the aspects of the basic catagory, inner structure and mind’s differentkinds of Tathagatagarbha.3rdchapter explores the three vessels nine vehicles thought ofMahasandhi’s teachings, trying to describe the specialty of Mahasandhi practice fromthe lower, medium and higher vessels’aspects. The3rdpart (4thchapter) introduces the practice ticheniques of Mahasandhi,consists of four main points: Guru is the core premise of enlightenment;Meditation isthe basic mind training method; Tre-chod and Tod-gel are two specific meditationtecheniques; the inportance of Mahasandhi’s inheritance. These four above are veryimportant parts of Mahasandhi, highlight the importance of practicing, moreover suchfour points embody the specificity of Mahasandhi from other teachings.
