The “Chinese Cultural Going out†strategy is one of the most crucial issues in theGovernmental Work Report of the Eighteenth National Congress, and developing thesoft power has been a significant approach to enhance Chinese international status. Inthis context, the study of the classical Chinese literary works and the relevanttranslations possesses inestimable value. Li Qingzhao, the poetess of Song Dynasty, isnotable for her ci-poems which earned her supreme status in china and the world as awhole, and she was the only Chinese female writer whose name was adopted to entitlethe crater of outer space. Her works were widely translated by numerous translators athome and abroad. On the basis of the multiple definitions and classifications ofcultural images, the thesis extracts ninety cultural images in five categories from LiQingzhao’s works and Kenneth Rexroth’s relevant translations as the study object.Within the theoretical framework of domestication and foreignization, the presentresearch aims to analyze the translation strategies of cultural images. By makingcontrastive study of Rexroth and Xu Yuanchong’s translations, the thesis is attemptedto summarize the translation strategies and principles of cultural images, providereference for the Chinese translators and work in concert with the promotion of the“Chinese Cultural Going out†strategy. |
