Qu You, born during the change of dynasty from Yuan to Ming, was one of thefamous literati in the early Ming Dynasty. He has made quite high achievements inthe fields of writing poetries, novels and appreciations of poems. But Qu Yousuffered a lot in his life experiencing the period of peace and war in the late YuanDynasty and the control of serious political pressure in the early Ming Dynasty.Besides, he was banished and didn’t go to back to his hometown, which hadn’t beenseen by him for over30years until he was at the top age of82. Both the numerousfrustrations and rich life experiences gave him the chance to have more frequentresponsorial activities to more people with different characteristics. However, hisideas and poetries showed different styles by the fluence of different periods, places,social and political environments as well as the different persons whom he responded to.This paper aims to reveal the overall outlook in which we can generally see how Qu Youcommunicated with his comrades and created his poetries and find his thought changes in thedifferent periods with different groups of his responsorial persons. In addition, we can produce acase for the further study of the developing law on the history of responsorial poetries, thegeneral existence state to the literati living in the late Yuan and early Ming Dynasties and theirworld view.This dissertation consists of four parts. They are the introduction, the main body,the conclusion and the appendix.In the introduction I put forward my own research ideas and goal. Of course,Qu You’s life story, the origin0f his writing and the summary of the present researchsituation and meaning about Qu You are also involved in this section.The main body divides into four parts. In the first chapter we’ll observe andstudy the origin of the formation of Qu You’s responsorial activities beginning withthe style which was very popular in Wuzhong Dristrict where Qu You lived in sinceancient times and according to the poetry responsorial tradition existing during or before the Yuan and Ming Dynasties. In the second chapter, first of all, we’ll analyzeQu You’s different performances in his responsorial activities by carefully teasingout the strands of his company of the different groups of people and pick out themost representative ones with whom he communicated the prior period, the oldfogies, while later, his favorite colleagues and the outstanding figures from the south.Secondly, the characteristics of Qu You’s responsorial activities are also summarizedin the chapter. In the third chapter, we’ll reveal the great influence on Qu You’sthought change from those activities held by his responsorial literati who had theirown life story and ideas. It’s believed it is the activities that made Qu You change hisidea from Lu Jiuyuan’s philosophy to natural philosophy, in the end forming theConfucian orthodoxy. In the last chapter, we’ll analyze the different ideas in Qu You’sworks influenced by the responsorial activities.There is a summary of the whole research in the paper in the conclusion.Qu You’s responsorial activities are organized chronologically in the appendix.
