In China, there are still few translation works onAmerican laws in such a lively and easy way, so this project is not only original butalso practically valuable. This project selects the sixth and seventh chapters for translation. Based on thefunctional theory, the author analyzes the source text, translation brief and translationproblems, and concludes two standards for the translation of this text: professional inits contents and fluent in its language. The author mainly uses three methods todetermine the professional meaning of words: consulting related data (professionalbooks and dictionaries, etc.), using context clues and referring to parallel texts; theauthor also adopts various translation skills to ensure that the translation is in line withChinese reader’s reading habits. This report discusses briefly the application of text analysis theory onnon-literary translation and summarizes the translating methods and skills adopted. Therefore, this report has reference value for the translation of other non-literaryworks.
