Heated Kang, a kind of bedding, is used for heating by fire. We can put mat onthe Kang, which is built by laying bricks, slate or adobe, and there are flues which areinterlinked with the chimney. Widely used, Kang traverses the north area, fromnortheast to northwest. However, Kang is not only used in our country, but also wecan find it in the eastern costal areas of Russia, Korean peninsula and western costalarea of Japan. The deep influence of the usage of Heated Kang and its important rolein the people’s living culture have attracted the scholar’s attention in many countries,and the study of Heated Kang has become an international subject. At present, thereare different views about the origin of Heated Kang in academia, and domesticscholars pay more attention on the research of its development process, but not itsorigin. This paper analyzes the development of Heated Kang from the aspects ofLinguistics, Folklore and Archaeology so as to further discuss its origin.Body: five chaptersChapter One: The analysis of Heated Kang from linguistic aspect. Firstly, retraceits origin according to the analysis of former usage in Northeast Asian area from thePhonology aspect or the pronunciation of “Heated Kang” in different languages whichare still used today. Secondly, comb its character’s development process from thestatement of the word “Kang” in Chinese historical documents.Chapter Two: The conditions of Heated Kang’s production and its definition.Firstly, infer the necessary conditions of Heated Kang’s production are sedentarylifestyle and the cold climate according to historical documents and Archaeologicaldata. Secondly, analyze the historical remains of Heated Kang, and define it and itsprototype from Typology aspect.Chapter Three: The stages research on the historical remains of Heated Kang indifferent areas. Firstly, classify the historical remains into three areas: plain, grasslandand mountains and hills according to the terrain. Secondly, classify Heated Kang fromthe pre-Qin period to Jin and Yuan Dynasties in each area into its correspondingperiod.Chapter Four: The research on the shape and structure of Heated Kang. Firstly,according to the number of the flues in Heated Kang, classify them into three types: single flue, double flues, three or more flues. Secondly, according to the planar shapeof Heated Kang, classify them into the following four types: L-shaped、“п”、rectangleand entire surface.Chapter Five: The development and interplay of Heated Kang in different areas.On the basis of Chapter Three and Chapter Four, analyze and summarize the spreadand development process of Heated Kang among the nationalities in different terrainareas of Northeast Asia.
