As a famous Chinese American writer, Laurence Michael Yep createdthe Golden Mountain Chronicles, namely, The Serpent’s Children,Mountain Light, Dragon’s Gate, The Traitor, Dragonwings, Dragon Road,Child of the Owl, Sea Glass, and Thief of Hearts. These series of worksnarrate the background and process of Chinese people’s emigrating fromChina to America since1840till now. This research tries to use themethod of imagology of comparative literature and analyze in depth theChinese images in Golden Mountain Chronicles. The research tries to findout how different the Chinese presented by Yep and break the stereotypethe Americans have toward the Chinese and how he constructs the Chineseculture. The thesis is made up of four chapters. The first chapter makes abrief introduction to the author’s life, literary work, the content of GoldenMountain Chronicles, and studies of Yep’s works at home and abroad, as well as the introduction to imagology of comparative literature. ChapterTwo displays the images of Chinese cultures. With a driving wish to findout Chinese culture, Yep recovers the Chinese traditional cultures in Chinaand cultures in Chinatown, which not only embodies the rejection,reception and integration of Chinese culture, but also shows the lost andcontinuation of Chinese culture. Chapter Three mainly discusses how Yepreconstructs the image of Chinese people and counters various stereotypesabout Chinese people. The last chapter which centers on the possibility ofcultural exchange and how to promote cultural integration so that peoplein China and America can get along well with each other harmoniously.The study finds out that Laurence Yep expresses his expectation tochildren, who will shoulder the hopes of a country and the future of theworld, hoping that multicultural mind can be constructed from childhoodso that cultural integration can be achieved and the world can beharmonious.
