| Nowadays with the development and prosperity of the translation market, a book often may be translated into more than one version. How to get to know the quality of these versions becomes a question that more and more people are pondering. It is quite an urgent thing that there is a recognized model telling readers which version is best. Therefore, the study of Translation Quality Assessment (TQA) is becoming a crucial issue of practical significance. The study of TQA may not only perfect the translation theory, but also help to improve the quality of translation as well as standardize the translation market. In the field of TQA, House’s TQA model is a great contribution. With the comparison of the two English versions of "Guxiang" written by Lu Xun, this paper probes into the feasibility of House’s model in C-E translation. Sorting out the evolutions of Chinese and Western translation assessment makes possible a systematic theoretical knowledge of TQA. This is followed by the introduction of the core concepts such as meaning, equivalence and function in House’s original model and the revised one with the analyses of the theoretical basis and the operation procedures. Furthermore, the demerits and merits of the model is appropriately put forward. Then the use of the model is introduced in detail, so as to use this model in comparison of the two English versions of "Guxiang" From the aspects of lexical, syntactic and textual means, the two versions are compared and the quality assessed. In conclusion, the case of comparing the two English versions of "Guxiang" testifies that House’s model is operative and effective in English translation. Furthermore, the future study on TQA is more specific. |
