The period of1920s and1930s, which was a very important time, that the early Chinese photography history formed, was the source of the nationalized exploration of Chinese photography art. During the period, Chen Wanli, who was the most important photographer and the advocate of photography group, had not only made remarkable achievements in the photography, but made a great contribution to the process of photography art and nationalization.Taking Chen Wanli’s photography art as the cut-in point meanwhile treating the efforts and exploration of other photographers as the history background, this paper explored the individuation and nationalization of photography art during this period to provide theoretical basis and historical text for the photography art and support the next period of the nationalization development of our photography art.By collecting and analyzing Chen Wanli’s Photographic works and activities and the historical file of the Photography development during the1920s and1930s, this paper discussed the relationship between Chen Wanli’s photography activity and the development of our Photography art. Under the background of China’s society, politics, economy, literature and art during the1920s and1930s, this paper made a comprehensive study of Chen Wanli’s Photography art, in order to show that our early photographers gave national and creative sprit to the photography art. Taking the origin and development of Chinese photography art as the focus, this paper objectively analyzed and expounded the important influence of Chen Wanli’s photographic art on the beginning and formation of the photography art during the1920s and1930s. From the aspect of the Chinese traditional culture and national art aesthetics, this paper systematically teased out the transformation process of the Chinese photography from craftsmanship to artistry and nationalization, so as to complete the description and demonstrate the value of the Chinese photography history.
