In the mid-1980s, Shanxi Province Writers Association hosted one special critical theory publications Critics, which is one of the special issues of the literary theory criticism during the past three decades. It is also one of the issues affecting greatly and owning unique features since the reform and opening up. Many masters, such as Liu Zaifu, Xingzhai, and so on, have been expressing their views and opinions on it. The Critics was founded in1985and ceased the publication in1989. During this period, following the pace of the times with the development of new literature, it has been showing the dynamic, three-dimensional, moreover, complex literary development courses. During the growing processes along with the literature of new ages, it has left its own special marks and also has reflected the times’figure, which played a certain role in promoting the presence of Literary Criticism. Merely five years since the Critics was founded, and it was born in Shanxi, an economically backward province, and no one conducted a comprehensive and systematic research so far.Whereas the existence of the history truth, it can not have been died away only because it was not mentioned. With the times paces and the diversification development of literature, the value of Critics was apparent increasingly, which was indispensable for the literature in the new era and literary criticism research.Chapter One is mainly to study the life course of Critics. The1980s is the era of recovery and prosperity of Chinese culture, and the relaxed national cultural policy and the criticism publications of the other regions, which provides the favorable external conditions for founding one criticisms publication in Shanxi. What’s more, Shanxi is a special place with a cultural history since the ancient times. The profound culture and humanistic literacy have been cultivating lots of elites who hoped to revitalize the literary criticism of Shanxi’s through their own criticism publications. The Critics, in the history of the call, was born. The publications lasted five years. Due to the adjustment of policy, it stopped the publication, but it left a gorgeous mark in literary criticism.Chapter Two mainly studies the major features of the Critics. It has been set up five columns, each column with different features, or thinking of new literary trends, or comment on the writers’works, and so forth. The Critics was leaded by the editor Dong Dazhong, which not only has been developing the editorial team of the professional quality, but has been forming its own unique style and characteristics under the joint efforts of colleagues, and it has the great influence among the country’s numerous criticisms publication. Founded for five years of Critics, the editors have been made the timely adjustments to the designing and publishing columns according to the development of the times and the readers’suggestions. Over the past five years, the readers are expanding from the major professionals and scholars originally to the TVU students and the ordinary loving readers of literary criticism. The scope of dissemination is expanding increasingly and enhancing the results constantly.Chapter three examines the text connotation of Critics chiefly. The three representative columns:Critics and Reviews, Theories and Methods of Literary Criticism, and Platform for Rating the New, have been deeply discussing and elaborating the cultural analysis, which have been analyzed the significant articles published in the typical sense. The connotation of Critics has been highlighting via the researches of specific texts.Chapter Four mainly discusses the similarities and differences of the contemporary literary thought comparing with the contemporary publications like Ideological Trend of the Contemporary Literature and Art, and so forth. Contemporary Literary and Artistic Trend looked out the prosperous development of literary criticism. Contrasting to the two former publications, the Critics has been paying more attention to the local culture of Shanxi, not only to the Shanxi indigenous literary criticism, but also to cultivating the new talents with great efforts, which made the great contribution to the cause of literary criticism in Shanxi.The author would hope to make a little modest contribution to dig out of its deep historical significance by the research of Critics.
