Culture is the soul of one nation, and it is also the spiritual root of the people allover the world.21stcentury is called the century of culture, the world’s multi-polarity andthe economical globalization getting quite deeply development, the technology changingwith each passing day, all kinds of different thoughts and culture mixing together, allthese factors promote the cultural industry to be a significant index in the competition ofcomprehensive national strength around the countries. After the Cold War, the UnitedStates has become the absolutely superpower in the political, economical and militaryaspects, as well as the global cultural market. As one of the most economically valuableindustries, an American cultural industry has undoubtedly expressed its global influenceand competitiveness with its booming of cultural industries. Therefore, it is quitenecessary to put forward some suggestions for the development of China’s culturalindustry by analyzing the international competitiveness of American cultural industry inorder to energetically promote the great-leap-forward development of cultural industryand let it become a pillar of our national economy.The main content of this paper is as follows: the introduction describes the researchbackground, the academic value and practical significance of this thesis, the literaturereview both at home and abroad, its main structure and the possible innovations of thispaper; the first chapter is the theoretic statement about international competitiveness ofcultural industry, presenting some basic definitions of the cultural industry andinternational competitiveness; the second chapter summarizes the related knowledgeabout the American cultural industry, rendering a brief view of its developing stages, itscurrent situation and its main features; the third chapter is a comparativelycomprehensive and systematic study of the various factors contributive to theinternational competitiveness of American cultural industry, such as technical revolution,economic system, social conditions, government support, cultural values, etc, and thedeveloping trend of the American cultural industry in the future; the forth chapter is anempirical research on the international competitiveness of American cultural industryamong the selected33countries using principal component analysis, then compares and sums up the finally results; after the above study about the international competitivenessof American cultural industry, the last chapter states some suggestions for our owncountry on the development of cultural industry taking example by the successfulexperience of American cultural industry from personnel training, legal system, relatedindustries, cultural resources and technology.
