As the leader of the May Fourth era, Chen Duxiu as well as other early membersof the CPC adhered to the purpose of revolutionary. Based on the position of anti-imperialism, they tended to hold the critical and negative attitude towards politicaland religious issues. However Chen didn’t simply negate religious and socialproblems. On the contrary, he realized the religion’s positive influence on socialintegration, social construction and the training of public trust. Although hisunderstanding was not comprehensive and profound enough, there were till manydefects in it which hadn’t formed a system, it is praiseworthy for him to realize thegood effect of religion especially in the trend where criticism takes leading position.The thought of Chen that we can draw advantageous resource to build a society forkindness is obviously pioneering and profound.Chen thought religion is the same as law and ethics; they are all from truth andthe tool to continue mass treatment. He held the view that the essence of religion isthe soul’s relief, which belong to the purpose of unconventional society. The mostfunction of religion lies in kindness preaches which is beneficial to human beings.Meanwhile, he put forward the standards about how to estimate the value of religion.It depends on how the religion benefits our society. In his views about social religion,the appealing of human rights has always been demonstrated. He advocated toreconstructions of endeavoring to love the world.. He was in favor of realism. Fromabove all, we can see Chen’s sincere care about the fortune of our nation.
