Chinese National Orchestra is developed from the exchange of Chinese and Western cultures in the1920s. It combines the traditional string and wind band and percussion band, in part to imitate the establishment of the Western Symphony Orchestra. Nevertheless, the Chinese National Orchestra and Western orchestra recorded quite different. The pursuit of the balanced and common sound of Western Symphony Orchestra makes the sound itself full and balanced.But Chinese folk music is main purpose with solo, more music pursuit individuation. In fact, it is difficult to get the volume of the balance and unity of tone. Furthermore, for the Chinese National Orchestra, the form and the establishment of the various places are very different. So it’s a great challenge for a sound engineer to record well of the Chinese National Orchestra.This article starts from the history of Chinese National Orchestra, through to its sound feature and the difference with the western orchestra, trying to do a bit of exploring Chinese National Orchestra recording. Full text is divided into four chapters. The first chapter briefly summarizes the development of the Chinese National Orchestra. The second chapter analysis the main factors that affect Chinese National Orchestra recording from the sound field, the band formed, differences in Chinese and Western orchestra systematically. The third chapter concretely analyzes the differences between Chinese National Orchestra and Western Symphony Orchestra in four aspects, including the spectrum, the degree of integration, the volume balance and musical instruments directional. The last chapter attempts to find the way that are suitable for the Chinese National Orchestral recording on the basis of theoretical analysis combined with the actual recording experience.
