The current study explored the relationship of age of acquisition (AOA) effects of L1and L2in proficient Chinese-English bilinguals. Participants recruited in this experiment were30proficient Chinese-English bilinguals (10English major graduates from1st;2nd and3rd grade respectively). Chinese-English translation judgment task was conducted in this experiment in order to observe whether AOA effects of L1and L2would affect the reaction speed of translation, the origin of relationship of AOA effects in L1and L2could also be explored. The result of the experiment showed that AOA effects of L1in proficient Chinese-English bilinguals did not affect reaction speed of translation, but AOA effects of L2could be observed in the same task. The result suggested that AOA effects of L1and L2were separate. Current study held the view that the AOA effect of L1and L2was inconsistent, and arbitrary hypothesis was proved.
