After Tibetan Buddhism was brought into Mongolia in13th century, it experienced a long and tortuous process to be accepted. It has made different degrees of impacts on Mongolian lifestyle, religious beliefs, customs, and cultural exchange, etc., and its cultural traces have reflected in all aspects of Mongolian lives.Mongolian furniture is an integral part of traditional Chinese furniture with its distinctive ethnic and local features. Its patterns, molding, and fabrication process are all visual art forms accumulated in the history of Mongolian production and life. It can show Mongolian nomadic lifestyle, rich grassland culture, strong ethnic cohesion and aesthetic taste to analyze decorative patterns in Mongolian furniture.Tibetan Buddhism has made a profound influence on Mongolian religion, after being brought into Mongolia. In particular, it can be presented in decorative patterns of the Mongolian furniture. As a result, the majority of Mongolian furniture decorative styles are related to religious themes. It is helpful to gain a more intuitive understanding of the image of how Tibetan Buddhist arts affect Mongolian herders’ daily lives through analyzing certain Tibetan Buddhism patterns appeared in Mongolian furniture. Because of the impacts of the Northern geography on the furniture materials which affect furniture decoration, heavy colored drawing, sculpture, and the combination of colored drawing and sculpture are distinctive artistic features of Mongolian furniture.The paper analyzes Tibetan Buddhism factors of decorative patterns in the Mongolian furniture in northern area of China, especially, analyzing the combination of Mongolian furniture culture and Tibetan Buddhism culture, to explore multi-ethnic and multi-cultural interplay in depth.
