The Observation And Analysis Of Internet Swearwords

Language is human’s important tool to express ideas and emotions. Human uses proper language forms to express their emotions, among which swearwords is an important manner to ventilate their negative emotions. This thesis takes "Tianya BBS" as the studied object which holds a large number of netizens, and tries to explore in depth the basic display of Internet swearwords from constitutive manners, keyboard talking features, pragmatic analysis and cultural interpretation.On the Internet, netizens utilize characters that are lacking in some syllables to express their inner thought, which makes swearwords produce many metamorphoses in cyber space. There are two approaches in constitutive manners of the Internet swearwords: first, people use many ways and methods to transform the traditional swearwords; second, new swearwords have been created. These two approaches are two main resources of the Internet swearwords.The virtual Internet communication and keyboard talking endow the Internet swearwords with the typical features of multi-allophones, frequent metaphorical code-mixing, gender differences and lower swear function. Compared with traditional swearwords, the rhetoric of the Internet swearwords is more flexible and diverse. Many rhetorics such as malapropism, chacter-analysis, hypobole, cutting and shortening, mytonymy are used to intensify or impair the effect and color of the swearwords.This thesis has also analyzed the Internet swearwords’ semantic values of changing topics and affecting communicative effects in the post discourse, illustrated the origin and spread of the Internet swearwords from the perspectives of Adaptation Theory and Memetics, and explained the cause that brings about the Internet swearwords and the post-modern culture such as free deconstruction, consumerism, popular carnival and irrational trend that permeate the cyber space.
