The Studying On The Chinese Character Design In Digital Context Of The Chinese Character Evolution

Nowadays, Chinese character design gets support from both ancient Chinesecharacters and digitalized technologies. This paper will study from two different angles,one of which is the developing process from ancient Chinese characters to modern Chinesecharacters while the other is the update of the carrier of Chinese character, about the futurepossibility and trend of the development of modern Chinese character design. Initiatively,this paper not only studies the new base point of the recreation of Chinese character designlongitudinally during the history process from seal-cutting to handwriting to typography,but also uses a modern transverse view from typography to digitalization.By studying different periods of Chinese character’s development, the first chapterdiscusses the scientificalness and necessities about how could Chinese character persistfrom the ancient time until now. In the second chapter, it mainly analyses the factors whichwill influent modern Chinese character design such as the updates of carriers, people’swriting mentality and Chinese character’s interior function of recording. Moving on to thethird chapter, from four different aspects, such as rational information, carriers’development, changing of manifestation mode and spread needs, it analyses thesignificance of reform and innovation of Chinese character design. In the fourth chapter,the new methods of Chinese character design are put forward conscientiously, whichinclude comprehending from Chinese characters’ inner structure, passing on with thespecial inner-logicality of calligraphy and artistic typography and learning the concept andform of western character design to use for reference. By using these new methods,we can really design the Chinese character which is in agreement with the moderncivilization by combining the ancient and recent samples or making a combination ofChinese and Western elements. In the same chapter, author also has volumes writingabout the classification and analysis about some representative samples and author’s owndesign works, which gives author a lot of valuable experiences and inspiration. In the fifthchapter, according to the current situation, the author infers the development trends of Chinese character from the challenges and opportunities it will face in digital context.Through the study, the author reckons that a new index for Chinese character designwould be set at the present times as a result from the liberation of technologies in thisinformation era. Also, the diversified development of humanity and society and theincrease of people’s demand for Chinese character both are very important incentives tothe new-setting index, which is the combination of function and emotion. In addition tothis, being rational and intuitional is another requirement to Chinese character design innowadays, which can be concluded as attaching importance to the inheritance of nationalculture and to people’s emotional appeal.
