This report, written by the author on the basis of translation of the white paper entitled China’s Policies and Actions for Addressing Climate Change (2011), aims at probing into principle and skills of translation of political documents, via specific case studies, in a hope to render reference to rendition of similar texts. The report consists of four parts. The first part briefly introduces the background, the content of the source text and the translation process. The second part deals with the Skopos Theory—guiding theory of the translation—while expounding the relationship between the theory and translation of political essays. The third part is the core of this report. Under the guidance of the Skopos Theory, the author analyzes the words and sentences characteristics and the strategies adopted in the translation. The last part is the conclusion of this translation practice.
