Academic procrastination refers to the students who know the learningtasks should or must be completed but unnecessary delay in the completion ofthe learning tasks. This delay behavior often leads to the learner’s mental andemotional disturbance. Based on literature review and case interviews, thisstudy mainly surveyed330junior middle school students in Zhengzhou Citythrough open-ended questionnaire. The purpose is to reveal differences of thejunior middle school students’ gender, grade and region in academicprocrastination and mental health. The most important purpose is to reveal therelationship between academic procrastination and mental health in juniormiddle school students. At last, we reached the results as follows:1. Six dimensions were identified in academic procrastination inventoryfor junior middle school students: the English class work, prepare for theexam, course work, complete a learning program, complete a mission, schoolactivities.2. The total average about academic procrastination in junior middleschool students is27.11. The degree of junior middle school students’academic procrastination is not high and below the degree of universitystudents’ academic procrastination.3. The degree of academic procrastination has no significant differencein sexes except the school activities. This means that boys and girls have nosignificant difference behavior. But the degree of academic procrastinationand mental health has significant difference in sex.4. There exist significant differences between three grades on academicprocrastination and mental health. And there exist significant differencesbetween the third grade and the other grades in preparing for the exam,participating in the task, school activities and total score. There is no significant differences expect in depression, terrorist, paranoid and dailyroutine.5. The degree of academic procrastination and mental health hassignificant differences about the students who come from different regions.The score of urban students is higher than the junior high school students whocome from the village in the English class work, prepare for the exam andtotal score. The urban students’ level about mental health was significantlybetter than rural junior middle school students. The results show that thereexist significant differences in depression, body, forced, interpersonalsensitivity, hostile, terrorist and paranoid.6. There is significant correlation between academic procrastination andmental health in junior middle school students.Based on the above conclusions, this study also raises some educationalsuggestions hoping to offer some guidance and help mental health educationon junior middle school or other groups of students by reduce academicprocrastination.
