At present, the function of higher education has been extremely misled by the market-oriented policy. Slumping of humanity and quality among the young generation has been drawing increasing consideration on the future of higher education. Meanwhile, foreign language teaching has been viewed as pragmatic for long, while its liberal purpose was overlooked by the schools and administrators. Via the empirical study of the Western Mythology and Bible Course at foreign language school in Hangzhou Teacher’ s College, this essay intends to rediscover the educational meaning for foreign language teaching.The Big Idea underpinning this research is that language teaching can and should do more than what it is doing currently. After presenting a brief analysis on the status quo of higher education today and an introduction of the mainstreams of language teaching methods, the essay discussed the potentiality and necessity of integration of language teaching into the great education is made at the theoretical level. Based on the humanistic and post-modern thinking, the writer blueprinted an organically growing interactive language class where teachers and learners share together and learn to each other.Next, a report of close examination on the procedure of the course is held out. With respective introductions on the role of teacher; students and course book, the writer highlights the significance of teacher’s affection and learners’ autonomy and mutual support between the two. The classroom procedure described in the essay can be inspirations for the teachers who are considering making their teaching activities different.
