We live in a colorful world, and there are various of color words used todescribe the colorful things in the world, basic color words红(red)、白(white)、黑(black)、黄(yellow)、蓝(blue)、绿(green)are the key study points of thisthesis. Although the quantity of the color words in different languages is not thesame, the color words are almost the components of vocabularies in all the languages.English and Chinese are both abundant in basic color terms, and with the deepeningof the cultural communication between china and western countries, it has beenrealized that basic color words are inevitable becoming a barrier in the cross-culturalcommunication, which is resulted from the deep cultural connotation of the colorwords. This paper mainly adopts contrastive study to investigate the culturalconnotation differences of basic color words according to the comparative analysisof some basic color words in both English and Chinese, and provides some feasiblesuggestions to the vocabulary teaching of teaching Chinese as a foreign language.This article is divided into five parts:The first part is the introduction of domestic and international research on colorwords and the study methods.The second part makes a semantic comparison of basic color words in bothEnglish and Chinese from four aspects, then reflects the cultural connotationdifferences of basic color words.The third part is attempt to find some culture causes of the cultural connotationdifferences of basic color words in English and Chinese from two aspects.The fourth part integrates theory with practice, through an experiment to knowthe effects on the vocabulary teaching of teaching Chinese as a foreign languageduring the process of the real teaching environment.The fifth part provides some feasible suggestions to the vocabulary teachingaccording to the analysis of the experiment.
