Shi Lu, one of the most influential Chinese painter in the middle20thcentury,explored for his whole life to create art works with distinctive nationality characteristics,strong features of the time and unique personal style, especially the Landscape Paintingsof his middle and late periods being recognized as the pioneer of the "Changan School"in Chinese modern landscape paintings history. Mr. Lang Shaojun once appraised ShiLu highly:"he would have become the great master of Chinese painting in the end of20thcentury if not for his unfortunate later years".[1]. His paintings’ creativity hasexerted great influence. Classic art works is the product of the effect of certain historybackground and social environment on genius artist’s soul. In some sense, a great orinfluential artist somehow represents a developing trend of an art and the whole artsmovement. Therefore, study of the style of Shi Lu landscape paintings and the art worksgradually become the focus of art practice and art theorists. This study learns from theprevious research achievements and it is based on the Shi Lu painting style analysis,employing system theory, analytic research and horizontal angle of view to explore theart subject of Shi Lu’s painting. Meanwhile, the study combines schemata forms andpainting characteristics of Shi Lu’s painting in order to do a comprehensiveinvestigation. On one hand, schemata forms and painting characteristics of Shi Lu’spainting are used as explaining language, which are induced as the double track of Shi’spainting study; on the other, the creating thoughts of art subject of Shi’s painting can bededucted from systematic analysis of the two which develops the understanding of Shi’spaintings. The concrete study includes three major aspects: the motivation of Shi’swork’s art style, the schemata forms and painting features, aesthetil ideology andinfluence. The whole study holds a comprehensive and open view, putting the threeaspects into one hierarchical while tending to be deepen body, in hope of a deeperanalysis and master of Shi Lu’s artistic creation and artistic thought and a further study.
