The international migration which starts from the19th century and reaches itsclimax in the latter half of the20th century has become the most important issue inthe current age of globalization. Within the collision of different cultures, identitycrisis has become a especially significant subject among the studies of globalizationand culture. As a powerful representation of arts and life, movies vividly record thephenomenon of global diaspora. The study of The Overseas Chinese Director Groupsand their movies which reflect the experience and the predicament of their identity isthus of great practical significance.This thesis is divided into three chapters. The first chapter is about the currentlocational distribution of overseas Chinese director groups. The section selects140overseas Chinese directors and focuses on distribution of immigrants, immigrationtime with quantitative analysis and the reasons for immigration. The second part ofthe research concentrates on the overseas Chinese director awards. International filmfestivals not only select outstanding works, but also provide a critical opportunity tocultivate the film and television talents. Worldwide awards and their characteristicswith detailed analysis obtained by overseas Chinese director groups are widelycollected in this section. The third part classifies the identity crisis from two phases:colonial period and postcolonial period. Based on a qualitative analysis, theconstruction process and features of identity during different historical phases,cultures, and powers are mainly discussed in this sector.
