With the development of the high technology, the popularization of the Internet,and the enhancement of people’s appreciation of the beauty, American TV plays aremore and more favored by the Chinese audience. The subtitle translation of theAmerican TV plays thus become a hotspot. In order to make American TV plays get abetter spread and well received by Chinese audiences, our country even hasestablished the specialized subtitle translation team. However, during today’sknowledge explosion era, new things’ uninterrupted emergence, and the velocity ofthe language change, the traditional translation. The traditional translation theory hasbeen unable to adapt to the complexity and special requirements of Subtitle translation.For this purpose, this paper through enumerating the living examples of American TVplays subtitle translation, combining with Skopostheorie, and an analysis to thesubtitle translation of American TV plays, aims to analyze the characteristics of thesubtitle, as well as the limitations existing in the translation and finally conclude moresubstantial translation strategies.Skopostheorie is proposed by Hans Vermeer in the1970s. as a greatbreakthrough of the traditional translation theory and an important supplement oftranslation theory research, it develops a new approach and perspective for the subtitletranslation research. It thinks that translation is a kind of purpose behavior. Therefore,in the translation process, the translators should follow the guidance of translatingpurpose, take consideration of the expected function of target text, as well as thetarget text audience, and finally adopt a most appropriate translation strategy.This paper discusses from five aspects: Part one is the introduction of this paper.It mainly introduces the backgrounds, the objectives of this paper and the literaturereview, including the current research situation abroad and in our country, throughthis part, the values and significance of this paper can be obtained; Part two is thetheoretical framework part. It mainly analyzes the Skopos Theory and translation,containing the definition, the rules of Skopos Theory, as well as the translation as aninterpersonal action; Part three gives a brief study of the subtitle translation, including the definition, the types and the constrains. This part leads to the following analysiscombined Scopos. Part four is the key part. Based on the Skopos Theory, combiningwith the practical subtitle translation examples, it deeply discusses the strategies ofAmerican TV plays subtitle translation; Part five is the conclusion part. It mainlyconcludes the new findings, inadequacies, and the future of this thesis. At last,Through the research of this paper, the author hopes to make some contribution to theapproaches and strategies in the future American TV plays subtitle translation. |
