In the field of the research about "Read in the literature",Wolfgang Iser is a personthat cannot be evaded. From the principle of phenomenology perspective his rigorousacademic attitude and keen theoretical vision have been involved in many aspects of hisstudy, and this helps him to complete his famous book 《reading activities》, and put upthe "two-way role theory of reading" between text and readers, enrichment anddevelopment of literary studies in this field. This paper attempts to do a comprehensiveexposition of his theory of reading. This article is divided into six parts: the first part is the preface. This part aims tointroduce the development of Iser’s academic course, and show the present result of thestudy on his theory about reading. The second part: study on the background of Iser’s reading theory.By analyzing Iser’s critical paradigm of aesthetic formalism and history-positivistparadigm, we found that the fulcrum of Iser’s theory of reading is a complementaryrelationship between text and reality, and it solves the problem about what is the structureto control the interaction of the readers of text and how about text is experienced by thereaders. The third part is about the view of Iser on the art of reading activities. After thestudy on the Language features through this article, as well as analysis of the concept ofthe repertoire and strategies, we found that from Iser’s point of view, text is the potentialexist which need to be realized by readers, and including the content that can beexchange between the papers and readers. The fourth part of this paper is to make a study on Iser’s aesthetic reading activitiesthat is about the "specific" view of the reader on text. Through the analysis of some important concepts put up by Iser, we found that under the stimulus by the potentialeffect of text, readers can experience the implication means of the article through thevision of "wandering viewpoint" in text, as well as integrated different reading time tounderstand the final meaning of this article. The fifth part, study on Iser’s view about literary exchange. We found that Iser hascompared the literature Reading to the exchanges between the people. And from theparticularity of literary reading, he put up a point that literary reading is the "asymmetrictwo-way communication between the readers and this article", and pointed out that the"blank" is triggered, promote and control the exchanged structure of the paper. The sixth part, Conclusion. Through the Comparative study of the theory ofIngarden and Iser’s theory of reading, this part aims to analysis the characteristics ofIser’s reading theory and his pursuit and focus on this theory. At the end of the paper wefound that our study about Iser’s theory of reading is not the end, and it still need us to dofurther research in the future.
