It is in Ming and Qing Dynasty. that the important period for Beijiang river basin’straffic development.Take1842for a dividing line,this period can be roughly dividedinto two different periods. Since1638to1842, under only one port policy, traffic ofBeijiang river basin connected north-south commodity exchange further strengthens.Because Beijiang river basin is mainly mountain area, two banks are steep sides,water potentials flow rapidly, drop height is high, when the boats sailing, there is fullof dangerous rapids and currents, the boats may capsize. While walking on land, themountain would become hinder, it is necessary. To dig mountain passes, to carry onthe shoulder and back become the basic modes of transportation. Water and Landtransportation become the main form of traffic modes on condition of the naturalgeographical condition. Under the condition existing roads and commoditiesexchange frequently, Water and Land transportation of Beijiang river basin exploitedtime and again in Ming dynasty. And formed traffic between water and land patterns.Qing Dynasty(before1842),Water and Land transportation extended to counties andtowns,form the trend that Beijiang river cross the vertical form different parts of thetransport network.Beijiang river basin development based on economic radiated of zhujiang delta.Land and water transport and Inter-basin commodity economy developed flourishing.the economic commodity developed within the watershed, The number of CountryFairs in the beijiang river basin had increased, commercial and trade exchangedfrequently.After the court carried out five-port trading Policy, the number of goods from thenorth had declined traffic of beijiang river basin into depression. In the late QingDynasty, with the railway rose. Water transport in beijiang river basin declinedcommodity exchange strengthening among regions. Under the influence of watertransport, water God belief had distinct regional characteristics. This article sketchedthe development course of land and water transport in beijiang river basin form1638to1911.The roads radiated out from prefecture capital to counties, and formed waterand lands the transport network. This change was bound up with natural environmentof many hills and rivers, the commodity economy development in Lingnan, and thetransformation of national policy and so on.
