Critical reading is a kind of reading method which readers respond or evaluate the text according to certain standards by means of active analysis,comparison,question,selection and filtering. Research on critical reading was prevalent in the1960s in the United States,however, this research has just started in our country until the early this century.According to the view of existing literature on critical reading,the research was mainly in a practical level----in the classroom teaching,and lacked a macro perspective.Research on practical level just focused on teaching methods and strategies,and paid little attention to the teaching content determined by the stylistic. Most of the research is a value of nature, follow the logic of "ought"and provide a reasonable defense for their own theories and perspectives.However,this kind of study also easily go to a misunderstanding which is "take it for granted" regardless of reality,and because of lack of reflection of the practical problems,the study may make the theory remain at the abstract level and can’t solve the practical problems.Based on the above research,this thesis intends to analyze the idea of literature reading orientation at the level of curriculum standards,requirements and current situation of the novel reading in textbooks level,and attempts to explore what factors hinder or interfere the implementation of novel critical reading teaching.Through a comparative study of mother-tongue education with other countries, we can find differences and gaps,and give suggestions to improve the existing problems.On the basis of the above study,the author try to build the novel’s critical reading teaching system.Firstly this paper combs the concept of critcal reading, summarize the characteristics and clarify the meaning of the language reading teaching.Secondly to combine the critical reading teaching with novel style, through a comparative study with foreign mother-tongue education,the paper will come to some conclusions that there are three types of reading orientation which are mixed and unclear in our country’s current curriculum standards, and the reading materials set the tone for reading, the practice requirement is low-level and the novel concept is obsolete in the preparation of textbooks.To improve the situations,the author propose appropriate recommendations. Next, starting from the field of teaching practice, we explore the status and effectiveness of reading teaching in different orientations by means of lesson study, analyse a novel critical reading teaching lesson, illustrate the conditions of implementing critical reading teaching, and clear the role and function of teachers. Finally, we try to build an available novel critical reading teaching system from two aspects, which are the teaching content and teaching methods, to improve the status quo.
