Bizheng, Bi Syndrome, or rheumatism, is a common and chronic disease that mainlyinhibits the movements of a patient. Te causes of the Bi Syndrome include the severe lack ofanti-pathogenic Qi, and that pathogenic Qi enters the body resulting in blood clots and cloggedmeridian. The most characteristic symptoms for this disease include pain, numbness andswelling in the joints and muscles of the patient’s four limbs. According to reports frommodern day research, the Bi Syndrome is in many ways similar to rheumatism in Westernmedicine. The TCM approach to treating Bi Syndrome is uniquely advantageous, especially inthe specialty of the treatment, the healing process and post-treatment.There is a complete systematic approach to understanding Bi Syndrome’s causing factors, the theoretical analysis and the treatment. In the two thousand years of history of TCM,countless physicians have accumulated a vast amount of theory and clinical experience. Someof them were active in researching the cure for the illness, and as a result, absorbed bountifulknowledge from medical records. They digested the information and filtered the relevant andnecessary data, and investigated previous physicians’ diagnosis, prescription andcomprehension of the Bi Syndrome, to better understand and appreciate the entire process. They try to deepen their understanding of the disease in terms of the causes, attributing factors, prescription and as a result, come up with a more effective treatment procedure, to improveclinical efficiency and accuracy. However, the findings and theories of past physicians areoften deep and difficult to comprehend. Moreover, different physicians may have contradictingviews on the same issue, resulting in a myriad of opinions and proposed treatments. To add onthe confusion, the disparity in time, place and language are imposing challenges to the modernphysicians in terms of understanding the text. In a bold attempt to overcome these difficulties and comprehend the ancient writings of these men, modern practitioners trace the originsof the findings, and immerse themselves in the academics of traditional Chinesemedicine.Physicians of Qing Dynasty accumulated the experience of predecessors and formermedical researchers, and Qing thus became a prosperous period in terms of Chinesemedicine. My research is based primarily on 28 famous physicians of Qing Dynasty & 14famous physicians of Contemporary on their experience in pathology, diagnosis, clinicaltheory and methods, prescription records and analysis, etc. then contributing a conclusivesummary that serves as a clinical reference guide.
